DAY 01

Manali to Kaza via Atal Tunnel & Kunzum Pass

Your epic Trans-Himalayan expedition kicks off early morning from Manali. Drive through the Atal Tunnel and enter the rugged gorges of Chandra Valley. Pass through Gramphu, Batal (famous for Chacha-Chachi Dhaba), and conquer the treacherous mountain switchbacks to the summit of Kunzum Pass (4,551 meters). Pay respects at the Kunzum Mata temple with fluttering prayer flags before descending into the otherworldly moonscapes of Spiti Valley. Arrive in Kaza by evening, check into your stay, and acclimatize to the thin mountain air.

DAY 02

World’s Highest Villages: Hikkim, Komic, Langza & Key Monastery

After breakfast, embark on an awe-inspiring circuit of Spiti’s highest hamlets. First visit Langza, dominated by a colossal golden statue of Lord Buddha overlooking the Chau Chau Kang Nilda peak. Keep an eye out for prehistoric marine fossils embedded in the soil. Continue to Komic, the highest village in the world connected by a motorable road, and visit the ancient Tangyud Gompa. Next, visit Hikkim to post handwritten postcards to your loved ones from the world’s highest post office. End your day at the iconic 11th-century Key Monastery perched on a rocky cliff.

DAY 03

Pin Valley National Park & Mudh Village Exploration

Post breakfast, drive towards the surreal Pin Valley, known as the land of the elusive Snow Leopard and Ibex. The striking contrast of green barley fields against purple and red tinted mountain slopes will leave you speechless. Drive up to Mudh village, the last settlement in Pin Valley. Enjoy lunch at a local cafe and take a hike along the Pin River. On your return to Kaza, stop at the picturesque suspension bridge at Chicham, the highest suspension bridge in Asia at 13,596 feet.

DAY 04

Kaza to Tabo (Ajanta of the Himalayas) & Dhankar Fort Monastery

After breakfast, journey down the valley towards Tabo. Stop at the dramatic Dhankar Monastery, spectacularly perched on a razor-sharp cliff overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers. If energy permits, take a 45-minute trek to the tranquil Dhankar Lake. Continue to Tabo to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Tabo Monastery, founded in 996 AD and renowned for its ancient mud stupas, exquisite frescoes, and meditative monk caves. Savor a traditional Spitian meal at a local homestay.

DAY 05

Tabo to Chandratal Lake Camping under Galactic Skies

Depart Tabo and drive back across Kaza towards the celestial Chandratal Lake (Lake of the Moon). Ascend Kunzum Pass once again and take the off-road trail towards the campsite. Park the vehicle and embark on a breathtaking 1.5 km walk to the edge of Chandratal. The crystal turquoise waters reflecting the towering CB range will enchant your soul. Spend the night at swiss tents near the lake, marveling at the Milky Way galaxy glowing brilliantly in the zero-pollution night sky.

DAY 06

Chandratal to Manali via Batal & Rohtang Pass

Wake up to a crisp morning by the lake. After a hearty breakfast, pack up and drive along the rocky riverbeds of Batal. Stop for steaming hot chai and thukpa at the iconic Chacha Chachi Dhaba. Continue through the lush valleys of Sissu and Atal Tunnel back into the green alpine slopes of Manali. Check into your hotel, enjoy a hot shower, and celebrate the successful completion of your Spiti circuit with a celebratory dinner.

DAY 07
